Why have Function Rooms in Hotels?

What 2019 holds in store for UK hoteliers In an article for the Institute of Hospitality Melvin considered the issues confonting the
UK’s hoteliers as we entered 2019…. “2019 looks like being the year of uncertainty, says hotel consultant Melvin Gold FIH, and not
just for hoteliers. Some will see uncertainty as opportunity, others as threat, but in any eventuality it will be a year in which hotel
management earn their salaries. Understanding the operating environment and taking appropriate decisions will be the key to

vibrant service sector. Melvin participated in a round table discussion organised by the Institute of Hospitality prior to the 2015

Melvin collaborated with Wordsmith & Co, The Institute of Hospitality and Horizons to create Hospitality Digest 2014, a pdf
publication of facts, figures, and original articles providing a comprehensive profile of the UK hospitality industry.
During 2013 Melvin was interviewed on Bloomberg TV several times by Francine Lacqua on
topical hotel industry issues. In December Melvin discussed the background to the Hilton IPO,
the most successful public markets fundraising in hotel industry history on the morning after
the offer was priced. In November he discussed Luxury Hotels and The Dorchester Collection
and in August the topic was Accor's change of CEO and the company's strategy.
In an article for Hospitality Today in December 2013 Melvin recapped supply changes in the hotel sector
and put them in a wider industry context, considering the rise of branded budget hotels, online bookings,
review websites and rising operating costs.
Branded hotels hold the key to the future. The hotel industry will grow but it will look very different in 2031
